If you already have a water filter in your house then you probably already know the importance of maintaining it. Maintenance can be a hassle at times however it is necessary if you continue to want a good clean drinking water supply. Each filter system has its own specific maintenance method to follow however at some point a new filter replacement cartridge needs to be put in.
Top of the range filters do not require maintenance compared to basic types. Whole house filters is an example of the more elaborate filters which need little maintenance; they usually have a self cleaning mechanism attached into the filter which clean the filters every time water is being pumped out. These types of water filters require filter changing every 3 years, there is however the inbuilt pre-sediment filter replacement cartridge which needs to be changed every three too six months. This need to be replaced because overtime these filters get worn out from the large amounts of sediments and bacteria being filtered out daily and once worn out, they will not work effectively and you will be in danger of drinking contaminated water.
The Whirlpool Company has come up with a new type of filter that cleans itself. Their new product, which is an Energy Star model, replaces the inexpensive whole house filters. The best thing about this system is that it cleans itself which means that you will have access to clean drinking water without the hassle of having to clean the system every six months.
Other filters like faucet filters, countertop filters and undersink filters are different from whole house filters and need to be given a bit more attention. These water filters are much smaller in size yet they filter the same water contaminants as whole house water filters. Due to the high intensity these filters endure on a daily basis a new filter replacement cartridge needs to be inserted every two months. The filters are just as important to replace due to the wear and tear that occurs while filtering.
It is important to have at least one filter replacement cartridge on standby, either for your water filter, fridge filter or even shower filters. They are cheap and are easy to replace. There is almost always a filter replacement indicator built into water filters to let you know when to replace the cartridge and it is very important that you know how to replace these filters as being prompt with your filter maintenance will ensure that your family is still getting the best water possible.
