Rural areas give home owners the choice to start up a garden at will. For relatively little money, you could start a garden and watch it thrive. Urban areas are less forgiving to gardeners. However, you can still make your own garden and watch it grow even if you live in a small apartment area.

Don’ forget to advantage of the offer Mother Nature offers in direct sunlight. Place plants on the edge of windows to harvest the Sun’s helpful rays that are required for plants to grow. If you don’ have access to the proper window, no need to worry! A fluorescent light will do the job if properly configured. More high-tech lights can be obtained at gardening centers if you want to go that far.

Getting a community garden added to your apartment complex is easy enough, so long as the complex has some free space in which to do it in. Apartment managers are more than happy to let residents take care of the finer aspects of outside beauty, since they won’ have to pay a company to do so. The complex gets a healthy upgrade, and the apartment owner gains a hobby.

Any type of garden that can ease your dependence on grocery stores is a good garden indeed! Some common plants that do well on the inside that also provide food would be small tomato plants, Lettuce is also a great addition if you have a bit of space in which to grow it. Of course, spices like mint and thyme are just as good too.

Don’ worry about fertilizer if you are short on cash. You can get a chicken if you have a small backyard to provide it. While you would think such a thing would be messy, it actually is an easy process. Some states ban the ownership of a rooster in urban areas, but hens should be just fine. Check with your local laws to see what you can do.

Don’ be turned away by a plant that is too large or long. Plants that are too long, such as those of vine plants, can actually make your rooms look healthier. Vine plants are great for the general living room or entry room. Visitors will notice the plant right away and feel at home once they grab hold of the natural vibes that the plants give out when used properly.
